This snippet makes use of the existing mixedit feature of the Dawn of Time Codebase to create a cooking system for crafters. The cooking snippet makes use of the herbalism code. Recipes are built the same way with mixedit. You will need to create item types POT and PAN for players to cook their food in. They’ll also need a fire nearby. Compatible with version R of Dawn of Time.
This fishing snippet offers a simple but expandible form of entertainment for players that also provides them with a food source that can be sold. If your mud uses cooking to cook raw meats, make sure to make the fishcatch object with a raw flag. Players have to have a fishing pole and hold it to fish. They also need to have bait in their inv. They must be standing in a room of sector type WATER_SWIM or WATER_NOSWIM (adjust to fit your code) to fish. This larger snippet has mines separated by type and includes the use of a mining skill. Like the basic mining snippet I have posted previously, your players will need to have a pick and be holding it to mine. Rooms will need to have a vein object reset into them for players to mine. Once the ore is mined, they will be told that there is none there. I find it best to have the ore scattered throughout the mines and being unseen. I’ve been coding for my MUD game, Athens and wrote up the following hash of code that could be altered for fishing, hunting (as in game animals), panning for gold, ect. It’s basically a hack of a lot of things that I dug around in. Code Snippet and Instructions Make sure to add an object type for PICK and to add mine.o to your makefile. You can add more cases to give different amounts of gold or silver, or perhaps objects such as gems. I just put up two as an example. To make this work, you’d have a mine shaft or cave or some other area, and flag the rooms ROOM2_MINE. You’d also have to have objects of type ORE reset into the room. I suggest making them not takable. When a player walks into the mine and sees some ore in the room, he’ll know he can mine
