After more than a decade away from MUD coding, I decided to get back into the swing of things. I was struggling with getting the codebase to compile on my own computer, so I made the decision to get a hosted server.
I decided to go with a server at thirdhosting.com. They mentioned on their website that they offered a service to set up a mud code base by submitting a ticket. While filling out the order form for hosting services, I entered into the comment box “Dawn of Time” as the codebase I want to use on the off-chance that the server admins would help me get things going. I figured I would have to make a ticket later or even email the site admins to explain what I needed.
I was delightfully surprised how quickly my new account was set up. Less than an hour after paying for hosting, the server admins had set my mud up for me! I couldn’t have received better or faster service. I’m very happy!
First, we would like to say thank you for taking your time to consider our business.
We’ve received and processed your recent order and you should receive your welcome email with your account information shortly. Reviewing your recent order’s notes, I see that the Dawn of Time codebase was requested. I am not entirely sure if you were needing the latest version of the codebase to be setup or if you were just making note as you intended to use that particular codebase. Either way, I’ve downloaded and compiled the latest version of the codebase to your account. The codebase has been setup and is currently online and operational at XXXXXXX port 6000. You’ll find the codebase under your ~/dawn folder.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to inquire. And again, thank you for your business.
